Pitfalls of AI use : Offers

Hello Friend or colleague,
One of the things I have been pursuing is navigating the pitfalls of AI in the information Science field. Yes, it can visualize data, such as customer inhouse and circulation statistics, but it can all clean up an email to those pricklier vocabulary and grammar nerds your messages are going to reach out to.

When we’re writing… [ I’ve also been thinking that using the term writing for an electronic medium is an anachronistic idiosyncrasy] … scripts for teaching, or posts for communication with colleagues, it helps to have the AI assistant to spot fallacies, poor punctuation or even to structure the intro so that the wow factor goes up that much more for the person receiving your message. But what are the ethical considerations of using AI for certain purposes and how does that reliance on fact checking tools and all-too-wordy grammar correctors supplement us without lending itself to overdependence?

Ai use does not happen in an isolated box. The machine learns and it should be a co-creative process. The alternative is an input and output that feels like, “Whoa, i put in a dollar and I got quarters back” but can i really use this for in today’s goals?

Cleaning up emails is one thing, but I may begin to consider brushing up on the necessary formulae for clarity in my written [read: keyboarded] communications. I hope you are well.
best,
